Privacy Policy

1. About this policy

This policy describes how the Pluck tuner app for iPhone, iPad and Android (“the app”) handles information. The app is made by Redshift (“we”, “us”). It applies to every version of the app distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play.

2. Information we collect

None. We do not collect, receive, store, share or sell any personal or usage information. In particular, the app does not:

• require or offer an account or sign-up;
• include analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking software, or any other third-party SDK;
• read advertising identifiers or other device identifiers, your location, contacts, photos or camera;
• connect to the internet. The Android version does not even request internet access.

3. The microphone

A tuner has to hear your instrument, so the app asks for permission to use the microphone. Here is exactly what happens with it:

• When it listens: only while the tuner is open on your screen. Listening stops as soon as you switch to another app, lock the device or close the app, and starts again when you return.
• What it does with the sound: short slices of audio are held in memory just long enough to measure their pitch, and are then overwritten. The result is the note, its frequency and how many cents it is off, which is shown on screen and not kept.
• What it never does: record, save, upload or share audio, or listen for speech.

You can refuse or withdraw microphone access at any time in your device's settings. The tuner cannot measure pitch without it.

4. Information stored on your device

The app remembers your settings so they are there next time. They are stored only on your device, in the app's private preferences, and are never sent to us:

• the selected tuning, and whether chromatic mode is on;
• the concert pitch reference (A4, from 415 to 466 Hz);
• the in-tune tolerance, in cents;
• whether haptic feedback is on.

If backups are turned on, your device's own backup (iCloud or Google) may include these settings. Those backups are provided by Apple or Google under their privacy policies, and we have no access to them.

5. Permissions

• iOS: Microphone, to measure pitch.
• Android: Record audio, to measure pitch, and vibration, for the short tap when a string is in tune. The app asks for no other permissions.

6. Keeping and deleting your data

Audio is never kept. Your settings stay on your device until you uninstall the app, which removes them. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on request.

7. Children

The app is a general music tool. It collects no information from anyone, including children, and contains no advertising or links to buy anything.

8. Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights over personal data that a company processes. We do not process personal data through the app, so those rights have nothing to act on. If you have a question or a concern, contact us and we will answer.

9. Changes to this policy

If the way the app handles information changes, we will update this page and its effective date before the change reaches the app. Changes that affect you significantly will also be noted in the app's release notes.
